InfoSec Reviews Awards Announced for 2011

The editors of InfoSec Reviews has announced a brand new annual awards service that will start with nominations being opened up for public vote over the coming months.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release) - Oct 12, 2011 - The editors of InfoSec Reviews (http://www.infosecreviews.com), a book review website publishing professional information security books reviews and commentary, has announced a brand new annual awards service that will start with nominations being opened up for public vote over the coming months. John Hughes, CEO of InfoSec Reviews, says, “We will be announcing the winners in the various categories at Infosecurity Europe in 2012, along with a couple of other awards, such as for best publisher and best editorial team. These awards will be an annual affair and from 2012 we expect to expand the scope to include various other product and service categories.”

InfoSec Reviews will be awarding the prizes to the various publishers and authors during the April 2012 Infosecurity Europe industry trade show where they hope to meet with a number of the suppliers, publishers and authors they have reviewed since the company’s inception earlier this year. Training vendors, product vendors, and website owners will not be nominated this year as the site has primarily focused on book reviews during its first six months of operation; however, as these review services ramp up over the first and second quarters of 2012 InfoSec Reviews is expected to go from strength to strength.

In closing, Hughes said, "With over 2500 hits a month, and this is growing month on month, especially on a limited advertising budget, it's great to see that what we are obviously hitting the sweet spot in terms of a service that the information security community needed. We intend to be around for the long haul."

InfoSec Reviews' Servers Nearly Crashed: An Amazing 24 Hours

InfoSec Reviews Limited Logo

The first 24 hours of operation of new website, InfoSec Reviews, dedicated to providing professional reviews of the Information Security marketplace, saw the website almost crash as security professionals flocked to the site to sign up.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jul 01, 2011 – The first 24 hours of operation of new website, InfoSec Reviews, dedicated to providing professional reviews of the Information Security marketplace, saw the website almost crash as security professionals flocked to the site to sign up. John Hughes, InfoSec Reviews CEO said, “I think the point that has struck home with most of our subscribers is that this is not just about the reviews, it’s about the power of the community’s voice, and what that can say back to a vendor. If a book gets a bad review on Amazon, it doesn’t mean much to the publisher or the author, as we don’t tend to know the reviewer from Adam. However, a bad review on our site, where the credentials of the reviewer are solid, and they have happily put their real name to it, sends a real message. Similarly, if an author receives 5 stars, then they have done a truly exceptional job and deserve credit and sales to match. If this kind of professional reviewing can convince publishers to go that extra mile and authors to add that extra detail that makes their book really sing, then we’ve done our job and the industry will benefit as a whole.”

The last 24 hours has seen the website receive over 4000 unique visitors from 32 different countries around the world, something that was quite unexpected at such an early stage of a new start-up. “We’re not exactly Twitter or Facebook yet,” said Hughes, “but if this momentum can be sustained, who knows where we’ll be in a couple of years.”

InfoSec Reviews Launches New Column: Perceptions

InfoSec Reviews' new Perceptions column, by Mich Kabay, launches this week to sit alongside the new Blog feature the group has also just introduced, attracting writers such as Mike Barwise and Tony Campbell to name but a few.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct 07, 2011 - The InfoSec Reviews editorial team is extremely pleased to welcome Professor Mich Kabay to the increasingly popular reviews site as a new guest columnist. Mich is currently the Professor of Information Assurance & Statistics at the School of Business and Management, Norwich University (US), and served as the CTO of the School of Graduate Studies from 2005 to 2009.

Prior to his move to the InfoSecReviews.com website, Mich had spent the last 11 years writing the Security Strategies newsletter at Network World, posting in excess of 1200 articles. Dave Raimbach, editor of the site says, “we are honoured to offer him his new home here on our website.  Mich’s first blog post for us, Credo, is already published for you to read, being a simple introduction to what’s to come over the following months.”

Professor Kabay’s new tenure will see him writing a bi-weekly column called Perceptions on all aspects of Information Security, and from what InfoSec Reviews CEO, John Hughes says, “Mich has carte blanche to write about whatever he sees fit. He’s got himself in a spot of bother before for being so outspoken, but there’s nothing like a bit of controversy to keep things interesting.”

The Perceptions column launches this week to sit alongside the new blog feature the group has also introduced, attracting writers such as Mike Barwise and Tony Campbell to name but a few.

Fully Independent Reviews Are Better than Amazon

Fully Independent Reviews Are Better than Amazon

InfoSec Reviews launches with 12 of the latest information security books thoroughly reviewed on the site, as well as two professional training courses, however dozens more are in production and will be published over the coming weeks and months.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jun 30, 2011 – Today, 30th June 2011, information security website, InfoSec Reviews (http://www.infosecreviews.com) officially launches in the UK. Site founder, Dave Raimbach says, “InfoSec Reviews was conceived from an obvious need in the general marketplace for fully independent, professional critique of books, products and services, especially as it is less easy to fully trust what you read on sites that provide anonymity for their reviewers, such as Amazon.” Mr Raimbach went on to discuss various ways in which vendors are increasing the number of positive reviews on various market outlets, raising their average and masking the negative reviews that true independent buyers might have posted. Similarly, as there is little to no governance over the reviews posted on these sites, it’s easy for a disgruntled buyer to give a bad review, unfairly dragging down the overall score, yet complaining more about shipping or the colour of the cover than reviewing the content or the functionality. “All of our reviewers are hand picked by our editorial staff,” continued Raimbach, “and their real names and credentials are posted at the top of every review. This should give the reader confidence that the critique is as accurate and objective as it can be.”

InfoSec Reviews launches today with twelve of the latest information security books already thoroughly reviewed on the site, as well as two professional training courses, but dozens more are in production and will be published over the coming weeks and months. InfoSec Reviews has direct relationships with practically the entire book-publishing world (related to information security) and will be expanding into products and services very soon.
